With two years of graduate film classes under my belt, I realized that I needed practical experience behind the camera to understand the technical complexity of filmmaking. In the School of Journalism at the University of Oregon, I participated in documentary production classes, editing workshops, and video lighting seminars that taught me to look at a movie from the perspective of an artist as well as a critic.
My first film, Gymnasium of the Mind, was a student collaboration, in which I wrote the story proposal, created the production schedule, and assisted with shooting. Our film was aired on Oregon Public Broadcasting's 2013 Student Film Festival and went on to be nominated for a Northwest Emmy. As a woman with a camera, I continue to develop my video skills by shooting and editing original footage, and I look forward to my next moviemaking project.
